Bathroom Shutters in Northern Ireland: Why Faux-Wood Wins Every Time

Bathroom Shutters in Northern Ireland: Why Faux-Wood Wins Every Time

The Northern Irish climate isn't kind to bathroom timber. Between long hot showers, poorly ventilated en-suites and the constant humidity of the shoulder seasons, any softwood or hardwood shutter in a bathroom will eventually swell, warp or crack. That's why we simply won't fit one there — no matter how much a customer might prefer the look of real wood.

What we fit instead

Our waterproof faux-wood range is an engineered polymer composite with a hand-painted timber finish. It looks identical to painted hardwood from a metre away, but it's 100% waterproof, non-porous and impervious to steam, humidity and direct water splash. It won't warp, won't swell, won't yellow with age.

Where in the bathroom it goes

  • Over the bath — the classic wet-zone window, and the most common bathroom install.
  • Above the sink — often the tightest window in the room, needing precise millimetre-fit.
  • In the shower recess — we've fitted more than one directly over a walk-in wet-room drain.
  • En-suites off master bedrooms — always small, always over-humid, always the right call for faux-wood.
  • Downstairs cloakrooms and family bathrooms alike — one spec, one solution.

Louvre size

63 mm is our default for bathrooms — small, tidy, and easy to tilt closed for privacy. On larger family bathrooms with a picture window we'll step up to 76 mm for more view when open.

Colour

Silk White and Pure White cover 90% of Northern Irish bathrooms. For heritage homes we colour-match to the tile grout or existing joinery — Farrow & Ball Slaked Lime and Little Greene Bone are our most-requested off-whites in Belfast and Bangor bathrooms.

A hardwood shutter over a shower will fail within five years. A faux-wood one will look brand new after ten.

The same 10-year guarantee

Faux-wood isn't a lesser product — for the wet rooms of your home it's the better one. Every set we fit is covered by our full 10-year craftsmanship guarantee, exactly the same as our hardwood range.
